2018 Elegant Cup Inter-school Rope Skipping Invitational

Taking up corporate social responsibilities to promote physical and mental health in young people



This year, Elegant Cup features rope skipping, which has earned Hong Kong many awards. 2018 Elegant Cup Inter-school Rope Skipping Invitational was held at Po Leung Kuk C.W. Chu College in Shatin on 2nd December 2018. Co-hosted by Elegant Watch & Jewellery, Hong Kong Rope Skipping Federation, China, Project WeCan initiated by The Wharf (Holdings) Limited, and Po Leung Kuk C.W. Chu College, the invitational has invited all secondary schools in Hong Kong, particularly those supported by Project WeCan, to participate in the competition. The competition was divided into five categories and 14 groups including speed relay, freestyle, Single Rope Speed 1x30 (junior and senior secondary male and female), Single Rope Pairs Speed (2person,1rope) 1x30 (junior and senior secondary male and female), Long Rope Speed (6 – 8 Persons), Single Rope Freestyle (junior and senior secondary male and female), and Team Show. 30 schools participated in the competition.

To allow the students to have a better grasp of the techniques required in the competition that they are participating in, Elegant Watch & Jewellery sponsored Hong Kong Rope Skipping Federation to provide trainings to the students before the competition. Each of the participating schools can join four sessions of training for free, so as to promote the sports to more schools and students.

The award presentation ceremony was held that day immediately following the competition. The Hong Kong national team gave a freestyle performance to kick off the event. CEO of Elegant Watch & Jewellery remarked at the ceremony, “Rope skipping is good not only for the health, but also for training reaction and stamina. It requires minimal equipment and has very little limitation on the location and number of players. It is a sport that is worth promoting.”

The organiser also invited the coach of the Hong Kong national team and Mr. Frankie Kwok, solo freestyle Champion of 2015 World Championship to share their experience with the students and encourage them. 45 awards were presented at the ceremony, including solo and group awards, and group overall champion and runners-up, specially set up by the organiser to encourage school teams that show excellence in all categories. With their outstanding performance, Lok Sin Tong Leung Kau Kui College was crowned the overall champion while Kwun Tong Kung Lok Government Secondary School and Pentecostal Lam Hon Kwong School were awarded first runner-up and second runner-up respectively. All winning teams were awarded trophies or medals with book coupons as reward.
